How to Take Your Bar Cart From Summer to Fall
Today I decorated my bar cart for fall! Learn how I went from your standard bar cart to the dreamy autumn bar cart you see on the right.
*Please note: All sources for items used will be listed at the bottom of the article.
First things first: I had to start replacing the summery items with more fall appropriate items. For starters, I had these pineapple glasses. Pineapples are great for summer – not so much for fall. I also had these gold and white striped straws, which would still work well for fall, but I wanted to add a touch of Halloween to my bar cart as well.
I found these white/orange and white/black straws at Michaels. They came with little characters, but since it’s technically a craft you can make, I didn’t put them together and just used the straws. I also found these adorable autumn leaf wine glasses at The Dollar Tree. I love mixing more detailed/expensive pieces with cheap finds from Dollar Tree.
So after switching out the glasses and straws, here is how my bar cart looks so far. Cute, right? Next, I had to replace the artwork. My friend, Val, drew this adorable piece for my birthday of my fur babies and I, but it’s not very fall.
I temporarily moved Val’s piece to the kitchen (just for the season!) and put in this inviting and warm Thanksgiving-style piece.
Time to add some finishing touches to the top level of the bar cart! I finished off the right side with these cute little plush pumpkins and I sprinkled some felt maple leaves and pumpkins all over the top of the bar cart. They add a lot of color and warmth.
Last but not least, I added a fall leaf garland. Now, I’ll be honest with you. I did not realize it was a garland when I bought it. Apparently I can’t read (when I went back to check the label it said “garland” haha). I thought I was buying more of the same, but in a bigger size. When I opened the bag, I figured they were just accidentally stuck together so I ended up ripping it in half. Whoops! Had I realized it was a garland, I’d use it as such, but since I ripped it in half, I placed both halves neatly behind all the glasses, creating a kind of border wrap. Hey, nobody is perfect, right?
Now moving on to the bottom row!
I LOVE the color pink, but fall is all about oranges, yellows and reds! It was time to switch this bad boy out for a more autumn bunch. Note, I suck at keeping flowers alive, so both the summer and fall bouquets are made with fake flowers. Feel free to use real flowers instead if that’s more up your alley! The first thing I had to do was take out the flowers, rocks, and sand. I planned to reuse the black rocks for the autumn bouquet.
Next, I had to cut my flowers. The fake flowers from Michaels always come with long stems, which doesn’t really work for a fishbowl style vase like this. I used scissors and cut them apart by cutting and twisting, but I recommend getting wire clippers. They would make your life so much easier.
I had bought some orange peonies and sunflowers and mixed them together. Here is what the finished bouquet looks like!
And here’s a closeup of the sand and rocks. I layered black sand, then an orange-brown sand, then finally my black rocks again. It felt slightly Halloween to me, therefore, appropriate.
Next, it was time to organize the alcohol! I could’ve just left it as it was, but I knew I had an assortment of black bottles, whiskey (orange) and rosé (pinkish orange) which felt perfect for the Halloween Autumn theme! I made sure I pulled all of those towards the front of the bar cart.
To finish off the bottom with the same love I gave the top of the bar cart, I sprinkled more felt leaves around, as well as some cinnamon-scented pine cones (yum)!
The very last step was to add the banner! I bought this cute fall Welcome banner from Michaels, and it was really easy to put together. Each letter had perfect clear holes to thread the yarn through and I was sure to thread through the back so that the yarn wouldn’t be visible in the front of the banner.
And that’s it! My beautiful bar cart just in time for fall! Now I am tempted to host a Friendsgiving. What is your favorite part about Fall? Hosting Thanksgiving, pumpkin carving, apple picking or something else? Let me know in the comments below!
